SUMMARY:Sunday Mornings at the Center
DESCRIPTION:Every Sunday we will practice together the Chenrezig practice known as A Concise Daily Practice of the Exalted Lord Avalokiteshvara.  The practice will include recitation of “Drupon’s Heart of Advice for Practice” as well as an extended period of quiet sitting meditation. \nChenrezig is renowned as the embodiment of the compassion of all the Buddhas\, the Bodhisattva of Compassion.  Whenever we are compassionate\, or feel love for anyone\, or for an animal or some part of the natural world\, we experience a taste of our own natural connection to Chenrezig. Although we may not be as consistently compassionate as some of the great meditation masters\, our basic nature of unconditional compassion and wisdom is no different from what we see in Chenrezig. \nThis event is free\, copies of the text will be provided\, and beginners are welcome. \nPlease call or text Pati at (520) 465-1882 for additional information. \nDrikung Namgyal Ling\n1135 Twin Buttes Road\nSahuarita\, Arizona 85629 \nMay all beings benefit!

SUMMARY:Steps on the Path to Enlightenment: Exploring the Lamrim
DESCRIPTION:The lamrim genre of Tibetan Buddhist texts is a practical and comprehensive way of organizing the Buddha’s teachings into a sequential method of practice leading to the ultimate goal of Enlightenment.  Lamrim is like a map which helps us understand how\, why and where the many different concepts and practices we may encounter fit together into a complete Buddhist path.  We know where we are\, where we’re going\, and how to get there.  It serves as a guide to our own journey\, and is itself the inner Buddhist worldview we develop in our own minds\, which aids us in overcoming the sufferings of samsara\, and in developing the ability to help others do the same.   \nThe lamrim literature originated with Atisha in the 11th century\, was spread by the early Kadampa masters at that time\, and different versions developed within all the Tibetan schools. The underlying topics are the same\, but the formats vary\, emphasizing different points and categories. Thorough grounding in the lamrim topics is the basis for all higher practices\, without which they do not lead to the intended result.  Gampopa’s classic\, The Jewel Ornament of Liberation\, combines the Kadampa Lamrim tradition with Naropa’s Mahamudra tradition.  Khenchen Konchog Gyaltsen calls it a critically important text to study as a foundation for the three year retreat. It is too lengthy to study in detail here within this short timeframe\, but can serve interested students as a valuable expansion on the topics covered in this series.    \nAn overview of the lamrim will be presented in a sequence of eight talks — a walk on the path through the forest\, with out every detail of each individual tree. Discussion and meditation on the topics will be included\, and time allowed for questions.  Lamrim is suitable for all levels of students.   \nThis event is free. \n================================ \nVen. Lhundub Daychen is a western Buddhist nun ordained in 1998\, who has engaged in study and practice for over 30 years\, primarily at the Deer Park Monastery and Buddhist Center near Madison\, Wisconsin\, and also at the University of Wisconsin.  She has received many teachings from His Holiness the Dalai Lama\, HE the Ganden Tri Rinpoche Lobsang Tenzin\, Geshe Lhundub Sopa Rinpoche\, Khensur Donyo Rinpoche\, Lama Zopa Rinpoche and other Gelug masters over the years\, and more recently from HE the Karmapa\, and Mingyur Rinpoche. \nDrupon Thinley Ningpo\, spiritual director for Drikung Namgyal Ling\, has asked Ven. Daychen to give these talks to help deepen our understanding of the path\, and she has graciously accepted.

SUMMARY:Sunday Mornings at the Center
DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \nBy popular request we will practice Ngondro every Sunday.  Our schedule will be as follows: \n-Refuge 10 am – recitations and prostrations \n-Vajrasattva 11am – recitation\, meditation\, and purification \nIn samsara\, there are three types of suffering – suffering in the making\, the suffering of change\, and the suffering of suffering. Ones should meditate with fierce renunciation in the knowledge that the intrinsic nature of these three is like a building blazing with fire. Having established the difficulty of obtaining the freedoms and advantages\, ones should train in the ordinary preliminaries\, and then undertake them. \nThe founder to the Drikung Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism\, Lord Jigten Sumgon stated\, “Ngondro is even more important than the higher practices.” It has also been said that sincerely practicing only Ngondro will lead to enlightenment since all mind training techniques leading to enlightenment are included within it! \nIf you have always wanted to complete the preliminaries\, but needed the support of a group\, or are new and want to deepen your understanding and commitment this Sunday practice is for you. \nBeginners are very welcome at this practice. \n* After the practice we will have an optional pot luck lunch for those who wish to enjoy the good company and quietude of the Sahuarita location. *

SUMMARY:Sunday Mornings at the Center
DESCRIPTION:Drupon Thinely Ningpo \nFor this special Sunday\, Drupon Thinley Ningpo will join us for Ngondro session for the AM and afternoon session.  Our schedule will be as follows: \n-Refuge in English 10 am – recitations and prostrations \n-Vajrasattva in English 11am – recitation\, meditation\, and purification \n– Lunch Break – 12 to 1pm please bring your own sack lunch \n-Refuge in Tibetan chant 1pm \n-Vajrasattva in TibetanChant 2pm \nFor those of us who are completing Ngondro\, have a love for these practices\, or have questions or curiousity about these preliminaries\, this Sunday is a special opportunity to do the practice along side this excellent retreat master and to ask questions. \nIn samsara\, there are three types of suffering – suffering in the making\, the suffering of change\, and the suffering of suffering.

SUMMARY:Renunciation
DESCRIPTION:Most broadly\, renunciation can be understood as a letting go of whatever binds us to ignorance and su ering. The Buddha taught that genuine renunciation requires thoroughly perceiving how we make ourselves unhappy by grasping and greediness. When we can let go of such things it is liberating. The Buddha said\, “If\, by forsaking a limited ease\, he would see an abundance of ease\, the enlightened man would forsake the limited ease for the sake of the abundant.” (Dhammapada\, verse 290). \nDrupon Thinley Ningpo will provide teachings and advice on attaining renunciation\, or liberation from ignorance and su ering. We hope you can join us for this one day event. \nTeaching Fee: $50 for this one day teaching\, $25 for Sustaining Members and above. Foundational Members may attend for free.

SUMMARY:Ngondro - Preliminary Practices
DESCRIPTION:Lord Jigten Sumgon\, Rigdzin Chodrak (1st Chungtsang Rinpoche)\, and Konchok Ratna (1st Chetsang Rinpoche) \nIn samsara\, there are three types of suffering – suffering in the making\, the suffering of change\, and the suffering of suffering. \nThe five Drikung Kagyu Ngondro preliminary practices are: \n1. The Practice of Taking Refuge (prostrations with recitations)\,\n2. Practice of Vajrasattva Meditation and Recitation for Purification\,\n3. Offering the Noble Mandala the Special Method for Perfecting the Two Accumulations\,\n4. The Guru Yoga that Brings the Blessings of the Lineage \n5.  Bodhicitta – the practice of truly wishing for eveyones’ enlightenment\, no one left behind. \nThis Ngondro group will meet every third Sunday of each month.  We will offer two sessions\, first session 10 am to Noon\, second session 1 pm to 3 pm.  Each session we will practice Refuge and Vajrasattva.  All are welcome to attend one or both sessions. \nBring your own sack lunch \n

SUMMARY:Achi Chokyi Drolma Meditation Practice
DESCRIPTION:About Achi Practice: There are essentially two types of Buddhist meditation practice\, Sutra and Tantra. Achi Chokyi Drolma Meditation Practice is a Tantric meditation practice. \nAchi is one of the protectors of the Drikung Kagyu Lineage\, but she protects all beings from harm. Those who practice her and recite her mantra are sure to be protected from obstacles and hindrances\, especially to Dharma practice. \nAchi practice we uses visualization and mantra to facilitate concentration. The practice lasts approximately an hour and a half\, and consists of opening prayers for setting the motivation to benefit all others\, the body of the practice using visualization and mantra\, and finally the dedication prayers where we wish to benefit all sentient beings \nThe prayers\, visualization\, and dedication are read from a sadhana (traditional practice text). This particular practice was written by Jigten Sumgon\, our lineage’s founder\, and translated in to English by Khenchen Gyaltsen Rinpoche. \nBeginners are welcome at this practice. For those starting out\, the visualization is done a little differently and we are happy to go over that with you. Please feel free to come with questions. We will answer them as best we can. For those we can’t answer\, we have many excellent teachers to which we can refer. \n* After the practice please feel free to spend time at the center\, learn more about it\, and perhaps join us in merit-earning karma yoga to benefit all beings. *

SUMMARY:Lama Chopa Practice & Tsok
DESCRIPTION:The  effectiveness of some practices is increased when undertaken together as a group – as Guru Rinpoche said\, “While it might be difficult for one man to move a boulder\, twenty pairs of hands can shift it with ease.”   Gathering our energy  in this way and directing it towards a specific objective can create positive results for all beings.

SUMMARY:Buddha Nature and the Perfection of Wisdom

Khenchen Konchog Gyaltsen Rinpoche \n“According to Buddhism\, individuals are masters of their own destiny.  And all living beings are believed to possess the nature of the Primordial Being Samatabadra\, the potential or seed of enlightenment\, within them.  So the future is in our own hands. What greater Freedom do we need?” \n— H.H. the Dalai Lama \nPatience is defined as forbearance under stress. It is the ability to abide with things the way they are.  This weekend Khenchen Rinpoche will explain Buddha Nature and Patience within the context of one’s practice and within one’s day-to-day life.

\n* After the practice we will have a quiet sit followed by a pot luck lunch for those who wish to stay and enjoy the fine company and quietude of the Sahaurita location. *

SUMMARY:Four Kayas Guru Yoga
DESCRIPTION:Four Kayas Guru Yoga\nDrupon Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche\nSaturday/Sunday\, November 7/8 \nDrupon Rinchen Dorjee oers teachings on The Four Kayas Guru Yoga\, his next installment of his series of practice instructions from the four thoughts on through to the instruction on Mahamudra and pointing out instructions. Here is a description of The Four Kayas from H.E. Garchen Rinpoche: \n“In your personal practice\, you see your own body as the yidam.  You see your mind as the guru. The mind of the guru is the union of emptiness and compassion; we are connected to the guru like the beads of a mala string. \nFrom the perspective of our own practice: the mind is guru\, the body is yidam\, and speech is the dakini. The Guru is the embodiment of 3 kayas: Body = Nirmanakaya\, Speech = Sambhogakaya and Mind = Dharmakaya. Lastly\, the fourth kaya\, Svabhavikakaya signies the inseparablity of the other three kayas. \nAt first\, the guru is the embodiment of outer refuge\, The Three Jewels. Later\, the guru is the embodiment of inner refuge\, The Three Roots. Finally\, the ultimate result is the attainment of The Three Kayas.” \nDrupon Rinchen Dorjee is currently the resident Lama for Chicago Ratna Shri and is the 3 year retreat master for Garchen Institute in Chino Valley. He is known for his wisdom\, patience\, and stable kindness.
