SUMMARY:Calm Abiding Meditation Teaching
DESCRIPTION:ìCalm Abidingî is the foundation of all meditation practices. In Tibetan\, Calm Abiding is referred to as ìShineî (sheh-ney)\, and in Sanskrit as ìShamathaî (shah-muh-tah). By learning this simple meditation practice\, one establishes the basis for all other more advanced practices. Calm Abiding is ìthe oil in the lamp that steadies the primordial flame of awareness ó the very nature of the mind.î \n 1871 N. King StreetTucson\, Arizona 85749 (Click here for a map)

SUMMARY:Sangha Meditation: Practice\, Study and Discussion
DESCRIPTION:This is a special meditation study\, practice and discussion group session intended to follow-up Drupon RinchenDorje’s recent Calm Abiding teaching. As always\, it a wonderful opportunity for folks who are new to Tibetan\nBuddhist Meditation practice\, to receive introductory meditation instruction\, guidance and support in establishing a\nmeditation or Dharma practice in their day-to-day lives. We will also listen to a dharma talk recently given by\nKhenpo Sherab Ozer Rinpoche (on Fri. 11/2/07) via telephone from Tibet\, addressing students in Tucson.\nVeteran meditation practitioners are encouraged to come and contribute to the group meditation environment\, as well as deepen in their own practice.\nWe will be practicing calm-abiding\, bodhicitta (awakened-heart)\, taking refuge in the three jewels\, and contemplating the four thoughts that turn the mind. Together these practices form the basis to all other advanced meditation practices. By listening and discussing related teachings and commentary given by Khenpo Sherab Rinpoche\, Garchen Rinpoche\, Khenchen Gyaltsen Rinpoche and others\, we will learn how to apply the Holy Dharma. The intention is to stabilize our body\, speech and minds through sangha meditation practice. We will examine how to apply this in our daily lives\, so as to ease suffering and be a lamp unto the world.\nThe curriculum for this group has been organized by Khenpo Sherab Ozer Rinpoche and Khenchen\nKonchog Gyaltsen Rinpoche specifically for their students in Tucson. This monthly program is intended to abide by Khenpo Ozerís wishes that we come together as a sangha while he is away teaching in Tibet the next couple of years.\nThese sessions will be facilitated by fellow sangha member\, Matthew Vasquez at the request of Khenpo Sherab Ozer Rinpoche. If you have any further questions\, please feel free to contact Matthew at 884-0554 or Email Matthew. Individual meditation instruction is available upon request.\nThese sessions are free and open to the general public. Any donations offered will be contributed to Drikung Namgyal Ling. \n\n \nSaturday\, November 10 @ 10am-12pm\n \nMatthew and Rachel’s House\n3935 North Country Club Road\, #36A\nTucson\, Arizona 85716\n(Click here for a map) \nFor More Information:\nMatthew Vasquez: 884-0554

SUMMARY:The 100\,000 Songs of Milarepa
DESCRIPTION:For Tibetans\, The 100\,000 Songs of Milarepa is comparable in status to the Hindu Mahabharata and the Christian Bible. Its author\, Milarepa\, is the most well-known Dharma Practitioner of all time\, and he is revered throughout Tibet and India for his unsurpassed spiritual attainment in just one lifetime.Milarepa lived during the eleventh century as a cotton (repa)-clad yogin. He avoided the scholarly institutions of his time and wandered from village to village\, teaching and demonstrating the path to Buddhahood through his spontaneously composed songs (dohas). Everywhere he went\, crowds of people gathered to hear his sweet-sounding voice ìsinging the Dharma.î \nHis songs are filled with powerful\, crystal clear advice for practitioners as well as stories of the miraculous\, and they present immeasurable insight into the living tradition of Tibetan Buddhism and its profoundly transformative practice. \nHis Eminence Garchen Rinpocheís teachings on Milarepaís Songs are unsurpassed\, and we are grateful beyond measure for his gift of these teachings.\nLunch with His Eminence Garchen Rinpoche\nIn conjunction with His Eminence Garchen Rinpocheís teachings on Milarepa on November 30\, December 1\, and December 2\, catered lunches will be held at the Benedictine Monastery for those in attendance at the teachings.\nThe cost for each luncheon is $15 per person. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian options will be available. They will be held in the same room as the teachings\, in the back of the teaching hall. Reservations for the lunch(es) will be on a first come\, first serve basis\, with preference given to those attending the teachings. If you are not attending the teachings\, but would still like to attend the lunches\, please call Zehra to confirm space availability.\nPlease reserve your seat\, make your check out to Drikung Namgyal Ling\, and mail it with the form (link) below to Zehra Conner no later than November 15\, 2007. We are striving for an exact reservation count for the caterers prior to the dates of the lunches. If you mail your check late\, please call Zehra at 299-1083 and let her know it is on the way.\nDownload a lunch registration form for mailing by clicking here. \n \n Benedictine Convent\n800 N.Country Club\nTucson AZ 85716
