SUMMARY:White Tara Practice
DESCRIPTION:Tara Embodies the female wisdom activity of the mind. She is often called the mother of all the Buddhas\nHis Eminence Garchen Rinpoche has taught extensively on the benefits of White Tara practice. White Tara offers peace\, prosperity\, health and long life through her enlightened activities. She is depicted with a female body that is the brilliant white of a thousand autumn moons. Her third eye in her forehead symbolizes her vision of the unity of ultimate reality while she simultaneously sees the relative and dualistic world with her other two eyes. Her hands and feet also have eyes\, showing that all her actions are governed by her ultimate wisdom and compassion. She is the protective\, helpful and comforting mother who shows limitless kindness\, generosity and protection towards those who are tossed in the ocean of suffering.\n\nIf we recite her mantra and make a connection to her\, we draw closer to developing her enlightened qualities in ourselves.\n\nBring your bells and damarus!\n1st & 3rd Wednesdays\, Every Month \nAda Pierce McCormick BuildingUniversity of Arizona Campus1401 East First Street\nTucson\, Arizona 85719(Click here for a map) \nFor More Information: Zehra Conner: 299-1083

SUMMARY:Achi Practice
DESCRIPTION:This week’s practice will be led by Khenpo Nyima Gyaltsen Rinpoche. \nAchi Chokyi Droma was the grandmother of Lord Jigten Sumgon\, who founded the Drikung Kagyu Lineage. Achi is considered chief protectress of the Drikung Kagyu.\nIn Achi meditation practice\, we use visualization and mantra as a means of concentration. The practice lasts approximately an hour and a half\, and consists of opening prayers for dedicating the motivation to benefit all others\, the body of the practice using visualization (contemplation of the mental visual image) and mantra (chanted prayers). The practice concludes with dedication prayers where\, again\, we think of our wish to benefit all other beings.\nThe prayers\, visualization\, and dedication are read from a sadhana (traditional practice text). \nThis particular practice was written by Jigten Sumgon\, our lineageís founder\, and translated in to English by Khenchen Gyaltsen Rinpoche.\nBeginners are welcome at this practice. \n2nd & 4th Wednesdays\, Every Month \nPati Stein 1871 N. SUMMARY:Contemplation on How the Fruits of Practice are Obtained
DESCRIPTION:Based on negative emotions\, we engage in actions (karma) of body\, speech\, and mind that give rise to suffering in our lives\, just as planting a seed gives rise to fruit in the future. In Buddhism\, suffering is not seen as “punishment” for bad deeds\, but simply a natural process of cause and effect. Deeds based on attachment\, aggression and ignorance naturally give rise to suffering\, while deeds based on a mind of non-attachment\, non-aggression\, and wisdom naturally bring happiness into our lives. This process continues from one life to the next\, through the process of Rebirth. Though the body ceases to exist at death\, the mind continues into a future existence\, and carries the seeds (which ultimately bear the fruits of practice) of karma into the next life.\nThis special weekend teaching by the Venerable Nyima Gyaltsen Rinpoche will discuss how the fruits of Buddhist practice are obtained. \n\n1871 N.

SUMMARY:Mandala Practice: A Hands-on Approach to Ultimate Generosity
DESCRIPTION:Mandala Practice is part of the Preliminary Practices (Refuge\, Vajrasattva\, Mandala\, Guru Yoga) and focuses on generosity. Mandala practice is a means of developing generosity by cutting through attachment and desire. In the Mandala Practice\, we visualize offering the entire universe to all the Buddhas and Bodhisatvas\, the Dharma and the Sangha. \nAll of the wealth of the universe is symbolized by the rice held in our hands. We visualize the rice as every jewel and precious stone\, and offer it (generosity) to all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas\, the Dharma and the Sangha. \nDrupon Rinpoche will lead a 1 and 1/2 day teaching on the meaning and application of the Mandala\, including instruction on its creation. \n\n1871 N.
