SUMMARY:Bardo Teaching
DESCRIPTION:The Tibetan word bardo means ìintermediate stateî or a transitional experience between one state of being and another. The study and practice of the bardo in general enables beings to enter the path of liberation\, and in particular is useful to those who fear suffering at the time of death. If one can practice the bardo\, one will experience the Dharma-as-Such without obscuration\, and the clear Mind-as-Such. Then\, one can approach the moment of death with joy and confidence.– His Holiness\, Chetsang Rinpoche. \nTraditionally\, there are six bardo states known as the bardo of this life; the bardo of meditation; the bardo of dreaming; the bardo of dying; the bardo of dharmata (after death) and the bardo of becoming (rebirth).\nWhen seen clearly\, oneís experience of the bardos present remarkable opportunities from life-through-rebirth\, to practice transforming our negative karmic propensities into virtuous ones and thereby relieve suffering. \n \n 1871 N. SUMMARY:Sangha Meditation: Practice\, Study and Discussion
DESCRIPTION:This is a monthly program of meditation\, practice\, and discussion and is a wonderful opportunity for folks who are new to Tibetan Buddhist Meditation practice\, to receive introductory meditation instruction\, guidance and support in establishing a meditation or Dharma practice in their day-to-day lives. Veteran meditation practitioners are encouraged to come and contribute to the group meditation environment\, as well as deepen in their own practice. We will be practicing calm-abiding\, bodhicitta (awakened-heart)\, taking refuge in the three jewels\, and contemplating the four thoughts that turn the mind. Together these practices form the basis to all other advanced meditation practices. By listening and discussing related teachings and commentary given by Khenpo Sherab Rinpoche\, Garchen Rinpoche\, Khenchen Gyaltsen Rinpoche and others\, we will learn how to apply the Holy Dharma. The intention is to stabilize our body\, speech and minds through sangha meditation practice. We will examine how to apply this in our daily lives\, so as to ease suffering and be a lamp unto the world.\nThe curriculum for this group has been organized by Khenpo Sherab Ozer Rinpoche and Khenchen\nKonchog Gyaltsen Rinpoche specifically for their students in Tucson. We anticipate this program becoming a weekly group starting in September\, so as to abide by Khenpo Ozerís wishes tocome together as a sangha while he is away teaching in Tibet the next couple of years.\nThese sessions will be facilitated by fellow sangha member\, Matthew Vasquez at the request of Khenpo Sherab Ozer Rinpoche. If you have any further questions\, please feel free to contact Matthew at 884-0554 or Email Matthew. Individual meditation instruction is available upon request.\nThese sessions are free and open to the general public. Any donations offered will be contributed to Drikung\nNamgyal Ling. \n \n 1871 N. SUMMARY:Calm Abiding Meditation Teaching
DESCRIPTION:ìCalm Abidingî is the foundation of all meditation practices. In Tibetan\, Calm Abiding is referred to as ìShineî (sheh-ney)\, and in Sanskrit as ìShamathaî (shah-muh-tah). By learning this simple meditation practice\, one establishes the basis for all other more advanced practices. Calm Abiding is ìthe oil in the lamp that steadies the primordial flame of awareness ó the very nature of the mind.î \n 1871 N. King StreetTucson\, Arizona 85749 (Click here for a map)
