SUMMARY:Maintaining Mindfulness in Daily Life
DESCRIPTION:We may experience many things when practicing meditation. An openness\, a feeling of connection\, thankfulness\, peace\, bliss\, clarity\, and compassion are just a few of the benefits of meditation. However\, very often\, the sense of peace we feel is lost after we rise from meditating to resume our busy western lives. To fully realize the benefits of our meditation\, it’s important that we learn and practice mindfulness when we leave our cushion. During this weekend teaching\, the venerable Traga Rinpoche from Garchen Buddhist Institute will guide us with his common sense wisdom and sage advice in strengthening and maintaining a sense of clarity\, compassion and peacefulness in our daily lives.(Click here to download a teaching flyer.)(Click here to register.) \n\n1871 N. SUMMARY:Sangha Meditation: Practice\, Study and Discussion
DESCRIPTION:This summer program will be an opportunity for folks who are new to Tibetan Buddhist Meditation practice\, to receive introductory meditation instruction\, guidance and support in establishing a meditation or Dharma practice in their day-to-day lives. Veteran meditation practitioners are encouraged to come and contribute to the group meditation environment\, as well as deepen in their own practice. We will be practicing calm-abiding\, bodhicitta (awakened-heart)\, taking refuge in the three jewels\, and contemplating the four thoughts that turn the mind. Together these practices form the basis to all other advanced meditation practices. The intention is to stabilize our body\, speech and minds through sangha meditation practice. We will examine how to apply this in our daily lives\, so as to ease suffering and be a lamp unto the world.\nThe curriculum for this group has been organized by Khenpo Sherab Ozer Rinpoche and Khenchen\nKonchog Gyaltsen Rinpoche specifically for their students in Tucson. If enough people express interest in this group it will become a weekly group at summerís end\, so as to abide by Khenpo Ozerís wishes tocome together as a sangha while he is away teaching in Tibet the next couple of years.\nThese sessions will be facilitated by fellow sangha member\, Matthew Vasquez at the request of Khenpo Sherab Ozer Rinpoche. SUMMARY:Lama Chopa Tsok Feast
DESCRIPTION:Among the most profound of Tibetan Buddhist ritual ceremonies is the Lama Chopa Tsok Feast Offering. It is a ceremony of prayer\, chanting\, music\, meditation and a ritual feast. It contains all of the points of the Lamrim meditation on guru devotion\, presented in a way that directly appeals to our senses and emotions. The more devotion we have to our teacher\, the more there is the wish to make offerings to him\, and the Lama Chopa ceremony creates the opportunity for making many kinds of offering – food\, drink\, lights\, incense\, music\, and the best form of offering to the Guru\, which is the offering of practice itself; in this case the practice of doing the chanting\, visualizations and prayers of the first part of the ceremony and the meditation on the Lamrim which forms the second part of the ritual. And since the guru is the highest object of offering\, the merit created is enormous. Please RSVP Pati Stein at 465-1882 if you wish to attend this event.Location: 1871 N. SUMMARY:Chandrakirti's Introduction to the Middle Way
DESCRIPTION:Chandrakirti’s Madhyamakavatara (Introduction to the Middle Way) is an extremely influential text of Mahayana Buddhism. It is an introduction to the Madhyamika (middleway) teachings of Nargarjuna\, which are themselves a systematization of the Perfection of Wisdom literature\, the sutras on the crucial but elusive concept of emptiness. Chandrakirti is one of several Indian scholars whose treatises were brought to Tibet and whose realized teachings about the nature of the mind are the foundation of Tibetan Buddhist thought. Hidden in his verses are the guideposts to enlightenment. The Madhyamakavatara\, Chandrakirti’s Entering the Middle Way\, is one of the key philosophical expositions of emptiness\, and its study has been an essential part of Buddhist training in Tibet for many centuries. Though not very long\, the text contains complex and subtle arguments in a condensed form. Study of this text leads to an understanding of great compassion and how it serves as a cause for generating the mind of enlightenment(bodhichitta). This text also sets out the various levels through which one proceeds to the attainment of the completion of all ten perfections and enlightenment. \n 1871 N. SUMMARY:Bardo Teaching
DESCRIPTION:The Tibetan word bardo means ìintermediate stateî or a transitional experience between one state of being and another. The study and practice of the bardo in general enables beings to enter the path of liberation\, and in particular is useful to those who fear suffering at the time of death. If one can practice the bardo\, one will experience the Dharma-as-Such without obscuration\, and the clear Mind-as-Such. Then\, one can approach the moment of death with joy and confidence.– His Holiness\, Chetsang Rinpoche. \nTraditionally\, there are six bardo states known as the bardo of this life; the bardo of meditation; the bardo of dreaming; the bardo of dying; the bardo of dharmata (after death) and the bardo of becoming (rebirth).\nWhen seen clearly\, oneís experience of the bardos present remarkable opportunities from life-through-rebirth\, to practice transforming our negative karmic propensities into virtuous ones and thereby relieve suffering. \n \n 1871 N. SUMMARY:Sangha Meditation: Practice\, Study and Discussion
DESCRIPTION:This is a monthly program of meditation\, practice\, and discussion and is a wonderful opportunity for folks who are new to Tibetan Buddhist Meditation practice\, to receive introductory meditation instruction\, guidance and support in establishing a meditation or Dharma practice in their day-to-day lives. By listening and discussing related teachings and commentary given by Khenpo Sherab Rinpoche\, Garchen Rinpoche\, Khenchen Gyaltsen Rinpoche and others\, we will learn how to apply the Holy Dharma. We anticipate this program becoming a weekly group starting in September\, so as to abide by Khenpo Ozerís wishes tocome together as a sangha while he is away teaching in Tibet the next couple of years.\nThese sessions will be facilitated by fellow sangha member\, Matthew Vasquez at the request of Khenpo Sherab Ozer Rinpoche. If you have any further questions\, please feel free to contact Matthew at 884-0554 or Email Matthew. Individual meditation instruction is available upon request.\nThese sessions are free and open to the general public. Any donations offered will be contributed to Drikung\nNamgyal Ling. \n \n 1871 N.
