SUMMARY:2nd Annual Amitayus Long-Life Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Being born as a human being is considered extremely precious\, as it is the best platform for spiritual practice. Only humans have the right amount of suffering ó our inspiration toward religion ó and the leisure with which to pursue that path. The human birth\, used correctly\, becomes a tool that benefits both self and all others. Through relying on Buddha Amitayus\, we can be protected from untimely death and increase our life span\, allowing us to make full use of the opportunity now at hand\, i.e.\, our human body. Moreover\, the practice of Amitayus itself becomes a means to make meaningful this human existence. \n Amitayus practice is traditionally done at the beginning of the preliminary practices (Ngˆndro)\, as insurance that the practitioner will live to complete their full commitment. It is also accumulated at the start of any long retreat. This particular Amitayus practice\, called Drupay Gyalmoís Longevity Practice\, is an important practice for the Drikung lineage\, which traces it to a great Indian dakini (Machik Drupay Gyalmo) who taught it to Rechungpa (one of Milarepaís main disciples). This is a wonderful opportunity for practitioners to practice together in a traditional\, intensive and intimate retreat setting with an accomplished master. \n This five-day closed retreat is our second annual fall retreat\, and registration is limited to 25 persons. The retreat will begin on Friday evening with an empowerment ceremony\, and be followed by five days of meditation and instruction. As this retreat is closed\, pre-registration is required\, and attendees will need to remain on-site throughout the retreat. Led by Drupon Thinley Nyingpo Rinpoche\, this retreat will be held at our sister center\, Garchen Buddhist Institute\, in the tranquil high-desert surrounds of Chino Valley\, Arizona\, four hours North of Tucson.\nRetreat Fees\n$375. (includes meals & lodging)\nLocation\nGarchen Buddhist Institute\nChino Valley\, Arizona\n(Please see Retreat Flyer for detailed directions)\nRetreat Fees & Lodging\nRetreat fees include all meals and lodging in a common area\, as well as required ritual items. Participants are expected to share in all kitchen and clean-up duties. Alternative accommodations including dormitory rooms or camping are available for an additional fee. The dormitory includes four double-occupancy rooms at a cost $20/person/night for double occupancy and $30/person/night for single occupancy.\nCamping is available at $4/night. If you wish to book alternative accommodation\, you must do so directly with Garchen Buddhist Institute. Please contact Trisha at Garchen Institute to make reservations. (Email: questions@garchen.net\, Phone: 928-925-1237)\nPre-registration is required and must be made by Friday\, August 18.\nAs a courtesy to those with allergies\, please refrain from wearing perfume. Thank you! \n\nTo Place Your Reservation or for Additional Information\, Please Contact:\nPati Stein\nPhone: (520) 465-1882\nEmail: pati@drikungkagyutucson.org \n\n(Click here to download a retreat flyer.)

SUMMARY:Introduction to Mahamudra: The Co-Emergent Unification
DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Mahamudra the Co-emergent Unification by Lord Jigten Sumgon is considered the amalgalmation of the entire gamut of essential instructions of Buddha’s teachings of sutra and tantra. Lord Sumgon founded the Drigung Kagyu order of Tibetan Buddhism in the twelfth century and taught the Dharma of the three vehicles extensively for forty years. Lord Sumgon had more than a hundred thousand disciples at a time\, and as the famous saying goes\, “the mountains are filled with Drigung practitioners and the plains are filled with Drigung patrons.” His teachings\, coming from his own experience\, are well known for their clarity and precision. This is the second year in a row that we will be the fortunate recipients of H.E. Garchen Rinpoche’s wisdom and instruction. \n St. Markís Presbyterian Church 3809 East Third Street Tucson\, Arizona 85716 (Click here for a map) \n\n (Click here to download a teaching flyer.) \n(Click here to download a Lunch with the Lama reservation form.) \n(Click here to pre-register.)
