SUMMARY:Lojong Teaching with Drupon Thinley Ningpo - August 9-11\, 2024
DESCRIPTION:Our Beloved Drupon Thinley Ningpo \nDrikung Namgyal Ling and Arizona Friends of Tibet welcome our beloved teacher\, Drupon Thinley Ningpo\, back to Tucson from August 9th\, 10th and 11th\, 2024. We begin on Friday evening with a public talk at 7pm. Then\, on Saturday and Sunday\, teaching will begin at 10am and end at 5pm PST\, with a break for lunch from 12-2pm. \nAugust 9th: 7pm-9pm PST\nAugust 10: 10am-5pm PST (lunch break: 12-2pm)\nAugust 11: 10am-5pm PST (lunch break: 12-2pm) \n \n\nLojong\, or mind training\, serves as an invaluable method for applying Buddhist practice in everyday life. It makes use of slogans or aphorisms as a powerful\, pithy\, and practical means of developing bodhichitta. It particularly emphasizes the practice of “exchanging oneself for others.” \nAs practitioners we learn the importance of accumulating merit and wisdom\, and nurturing love and compassion for all beings. During teachings or in the presence of our teachers and their living example\, these key ideas can become very clear and inspirational\, but after the teachings\, when we are on our own\, it’s easy to slip into old tendencies. \nLojong training counteracts the tendency to separate our “dharma” life from daily life so that we remember how to put the teachings into practice at all times\, especially when we encounter difficulties and suffering\, our own and others. \nInitially introduced by Atisha in the 10th century\, Lojong has taken many forms but one of the most famous texts\, commonly referred to as “Seven Point Mind Training”\, was composed by the 12th century master\, Chekawa Yeshe Dorje. \nDrupon Thinley Ningpo will guide us through this well-known text\, elucidating the deeper meaning and history of these classic Buddhist slogans\, and how they still apply to the modern age. \nPractice Text for Teaching:\nThe Seven Points of Mind Training \nTo Join Via Zoom:\nhttps://us06web.zoom.us/j/81782852263 \n\nLocation + Registration\nThe teachings will be held at Red Tree Meditation & Yoga Center in Tucson and simultaneously broadcast online via Zoom.  We strongly encourage you to attend in person. \nAll are welcome\, no previous experience necessary\, \nThe suggested donation for each day is $35\, or whatever amount you can donate to support this and future teachings in the Old Pueblo. Registration not required\, and can be done on day of teachings\, but pre-registration helps us to know approximately how many students will attend:\nRegister for Lojong Teachings \nExact times and the zoom link will be provided via email and on our website prior to the teaching. \nRed Tree Meditation & Yoga Center\n1234 E 16th St.\nTucson\, AZ 85719

This instruction will be based on verse that Drupon himself composed\, Musings of a Practitioner\, that calls out key aspects of the path to enlightenment such as virtuous conduct\, karmic infallibility\, and pure view. \nLocation\nThe teachings will be held at Red Tree Meditation & Yoga Center in Tucson and simultaneously broadcast online via Zoom.  Despite the short notice\, we strongly encourage you to attend\, since it has been 3.5 years since our last in-person teaching event. \nAll are welcome and the teachings will be free of charge\, however please donate what you can to support this and future teachings in the Old Pueblo. \nExact times and zoom links will be provided via email and on our website prior to the teaching. \nRed Tree Meditation & Yoga Center\n1234 E 16th St.\nTucson\, AZ 85719 \nTexts for Event \n\nGreen Tara Daily Practice Sadhana\nMusings of a Practitioner\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Achi Chokyi Drolma Meditation Practice
DESCRIPTION:Achi Chokyi Drolma is chief Dharma Protectress of the Drikung Kagyu\, and the revered great-grandmother of Lord Jigten Sumgon\, founder of the Drikung Kagyu Lineage. \nAs a protectress\, she vowed to guard the Buddha’s teachings\, and in particular the Drikung Kagyu lineage and its practitioners\, removing inner and outer obstacles to practice and laying the groundwork for progress along the path. Those who practice her meditation and recite her mantra are certain to be protected from obstacles and hindrances. \nIn her right hand she holds a silver mirror in which she sees the 3 times\, and in her left\, a wish-fulfilling jewel with which she fulfills the wishes of those who earnestly pray to her. During this practice we will aspire not only to benefit all sentient beings\, to remove the obstacles of war\, disease\, and afflictive emotions\, but also to establish the Buddha-dharma and our dharma center in Tucson. \n“When Achi was born\, numerous auspicious signs\, such as flowers\, parasols\, and rainbows\, appeared in the sky\,” teaches H.E. Garchen Rinpoche. Such are her miraculous qualities\, which continue to manifest to this day. \nThis practice was written by Lord Jigten Sumgon and translated into English by Virginia Blum. \nWe encourage a participatory style of practice\, in which everyone has an opportunity to take part and to learn how to do the practice\, and beginners are welcome. \nTo join the practice via Zoom:\nhttps://us06web.zoom.us/j/4152654112 \n\n\nA Concise Daily Practice of Achi (sadhana)\nHow Achi Chokyi Drolma Acquired Her 3 Names (invocation)\nKhenchen Gyaltsen Chanting the Achi Mantra (mantra with melody)

SUMMARY:Impermanence Teachings with Drupon Thinley Ningpo
DESCRIPTION:The link to both register and to join the teaching is freely available HERE. \nAs accelerated change at all levels of our earthly existence overcomes us during these times\, we are relentlessly reminded of Law of Impermance.  \nIt is the number one inescapable\, and essentially painful\, fact of life. It is the singular existential problem that the whole edifice of Buddhist practice is meant to address. To understand impermanence at the deepest possible level\, and to merge with it fully\, is the whole of the Buddhist path. \nOn November 7th and 8th\, 2020\, Drupon Thinley Ningpo will teach us how to understand this fundamental law in the context of the Four Thoughts that Turn the Mind to Dharma.  \nThis teaching will be conducted on Zoom. If you do not have an account on Zoom\, we highly recommend that you navigate to zoom.us and sign up for a free account. You may download the Zoom application to a Mac or PC\, or the Zoom app to your tablet or smartphone. \nUpcoming Drikung Kagyu Events: \n\nDecember 13\, 20\, 27: Drupon Thinley Ningpo teaches “Calling the Lama from Afar”\n\nDecember 28 – January 3rd\, 2021: Garchen Buddhist Institute “Namgyalma Long Life Offering for H.E. Garchen Rinpoche”\n\nLink to both register and  join the teachings on November 7th & 8th\, 2020 \nThe link to both register and to join the teaching is freely available HERE\nHowever your generosity is essential to make these virtual teachings possible.  \n\nWe strongly encourage donating whatever amount you can to help support our new Virtual Teaching platform.\nBetter yet\, become a member of Drikung Namgyal Ling to support this teaching\, the dharma center\, and all future events.\n\nThis same link will be used to join the Zoom sessions on both Saturday Nov. 7\, and Sunday\, Nov.8.  \nDaily Schedule: 10am – 12pm & 2pm – 4pm MST \nFor More Information on this Event:\nquestions@drikungtucson.org \nSince this is an auspicious weekend\, we will ask Drupon to celebrate Lhabab Duchen with us. \nMay contemplating and meditation on these truths benefit all sentient beings who are suffering now.

SUMMARY:The Precious Treasury of the Basic Space of Phenomena - Part 4 (virtual)
DESCRIPTION:The Precious Treasury of the Basic Space of Phenomena – Part 4 (virtual)\nWith Khenpo Yeshi\nSaturday-Sunday\, August 22nd and 23rd\, 2020 \nKhenpo Yeshi returns for the 15th straight year\, but this time via the internet\, for our first virtual teaching. The link to join the teaching will be available to all students for free\, although we strongly encourage donating whatever amount you can or better yet\, becoming a member of Drikung Namgyal Ling and support this teaching\, the dharma center\, and all future events. \nThis time\, Part 4 of our journey into Longchen Rabjam’s famous treatise\, The Chö Ying Dzöd\, The Precious Treasury of the Basic Space of Phenomena and its accompanying commentary\, we will explore the final chapters. By elucidating this text\, Khenpo Yeshi simultaneously introduces us to the work’s essential instruction on the profound Dzogchen practice of Trekchö or “cutting through.” \nWhat do we cut through? Conceptual delusion. In the context of Dzogchen\, we cut through the flimsy fantasy world of self-grasping and we do so swiftly\, emboldened by the simple recognition of the innate incorruptibility of our own primordial awareness or Buddha Nature. \nAs dharma students in 2020 we can celebrate the auspicious good fortune of this masterpiece having been translated into English\, and the special insight of Khenpo Yeshi. A scholar in both Tibetan and English languages\, Khenpo Yeshi has received extensive trainings\, both academic and spiritual\, too numerous to list here\, and completed three-year meditative retreat under the guidance of the renowned Dzogchen master\, H.E. Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche. He currently lives in California and attends Berkeley as a PhD student. \nThis teaching represents the fourth installment of a multi-year series\, each year traversing a few more chapters. Please join us as we explore this cycle of Dzogchen teachings with Khenpo Yeshi at Drikung Namgyal Ling. \nTwo days of teaching \n\nThe link to join the teaching will be available to all students for free.\nWe strongly encourage donating whatever amount you can.\nBetter yet\, become a member of Drikung Namgyal Ling and support this teaching\, the dharma center\, and all future events.\nRegister for The Precious Treasury of the Basic Space of Phenomena – Part 4 (virtual).\nView and download Basic Space of Phenomena (PDF)\nView and download\, Longchen Nyingtik Ngöndro (PDF)\, which we will use for opening and closing prayers.\n\nDaily Schedule (August 22nd and 23rd\, 2020): \n\n10am-12pm and 2pm-4pm\n\n  \n\nFor More Information on this Event: \n\nBrennan Washburn\n(520)977-2136\nbrennan@drikungtucson.org \n

SUMMARY:*CANCELLED DUE TO CORONA VIRUS*Bardo Teachings with Khenpo Tenzin
DESCRIPTION:CANCELLED DUE TO CORONA VIRUS — STAY TUNED FOR RESCHEDULING\n \nBardo Teaching\nDrikung Namgyal Ling is pleased to announce a very special teaching by Venerable Khenpo Tenzin on Saturday\, March 28th & Sunday\, March 29th\, 2020. \nKhenpo Tenzin will guide us through the six bardos as presented in “The Root Verses of the Six Intermediate States”\, one of the most famous sections of the Bardo Thotrol. \nBardo Thotrol\, translated into English as The Tibetan Book of the Dead\, is a series of instructions on spiritual liberation. The eighth-century master\, Padmasambhava\, buried these sacred texts in the Gampo hills in Central Tibet where later the great teacher Gampopa established his monastery. This terma or “hidden treasure” was discovered centuries later by Karma Lingpa. \nSpiritual liberation\, in this case\, means that whoever comes into contact with this teaching – whether in the form of doubt or with an open mind – receives a sudden glimpse of enlightenment through the power of the transmission contained in this precious treasure.  \n“The Root Verses of the Six Intermediate States” and associated teaching materials will be provided.  \nSchedule \nMarch 28\, 2020\, 9am-12pm & 2pm-5pm\nMarch 29\, 2020\, 9am-12pm & 2pm-5pm \nTeachings Fee – 2 days of teaching: \n\n$55 non-members \n$35 Supporting Members & above\nFoundation Members — free\n\nPer Session Fee: \n\n$15/session\, $30/day for non-members\n$10/session\, $15/day for Supporting Members or above\nFoundational Members are free\nWork Study Positions are available but require prior arrangements. SUMMARY:Sunday Mornings at the Center
DESCRIPTION:Every Sunday we will practice together the Chenrezig practice known as A Concise Daily Practice of the Exalted Lord Avalokiteshvara.  The practice will include recitation of “Drupon’s Heart of Advice for Practice” as well as an extended period of quiet sitting meditation. \nChenrezig is renowned as the embodiment of the compassion of all the Buddhas\, the Bodhisattva of Compassion.  Whenever we are compassionate\, or feel love for anyone\, or for an animal or some part of the natural world\, we experience a taste of our own natural connection to Chenrezig. Although we may not be as consistently compassionate as some of the great meditation masters\, our basic nature of unconditional compassion and wisdom is no different from what we see in Chenrezig. \nThis event is free\, copies of the text will be provided\, and beginners are welcome. \nPlease call or text Pati at (520) 465-1882 for additional information. \nDrikung Namgyal Ling\n1135 Twin Buttes Road\nSahuarita\, Arizona 85629 \nMay all beings benefit!
