SUMMARY:The Precious Treasury of the Basic Space of Phenomena
DESCRIPTION:Khenpo Yeshi returns to Tucson for the 12th year straight\, and this time he will lead us on a journey into Longchen Rabjam’s famous treatise\, The Chö Ying Dzöd\, The Precious Treasury of the Basic Space of Phenomena and its accompanying commentary. By elucidating this text\, Khenpo Yeshi will simultaneously introduce us to the work’s essential instruction on the profound Dzogchen practice of Trekchö or “cutting through.” \nWhat do we cut through? Conceptual delusion. In the context of Dzogchen\, we cut through the flimsy fantasy world of self-grasping and we do so swiftly\, emboldened by the simple recognition of the innate incorruptibility of our own primordial awareness or Buddha Nature. \nAs dharma students in 2017 we can celebrate the auspicious good fortune of not only this masterpiece having been translated into English\, but also the special insight of Khenpo Yeshi. A scholar in both Tibetan and English languages\, Khenpo Yeshi has received extensive trainings\, both academic and spiritual\, too numerous to list here\, and completed three-year meditative retreat under the guidance of the renowned Dzogchen master\, H.E. Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche. He currently lives in California and attends Berkeley as a PhD student. \nSince\, during the course of one weekend\, we will we only have enough time to cover the first few chapters\, this teaching will become the first of a multi-year series. Please join us as we begin this cycle of Dzogchen teachings with Khenpo Yeshi at Drikung Namgyal Ling. \nTexts will be available in our dharma store. \n————————- \nTeaching Location (see directions to the center\, below):\nDrikung Namgyal Ling Center\n1135 West Twin Buttes Road\nSahuarita\, AZ 85629 \nTeachings Fee – 3 days teachings\n– $85 non-members \n– $60 Supporting Members & above\n– Foundational Members are Free \nPer Session Fee:\n– $20/session \, $40/day for non-members\n– $15/session \, $30/day for Supporting Members or above\n– Foundational Members are free\n– Work Study Positions are available but require prior arrangements. SUMMARY:Mandala Offering Practice
DESCRIPTION:As Vajrayana Buddhists we diligently practice the 2-fold accumulation of merit and wisdom. To accumulate wisdom we engage in meditation to deepen our understanding of emptiness and the innate purity of all phenomena. To accumulate merit we engage the other 5 perfections\, starting with the perfection of generosity. Mandala practice combines meditation\, mantra\, and purification into a single very powerful act of generosity\, and serves as a method to accumulate merit quickly. \nWith each mandala offering we offer the entire universe\, our world and the inconceivably vast universe\, in brief\, the entirety of the glorious dharmasphere\, to all beings and to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. In doing so we overcome our basic tendency toward self grasping and greed by purifying it with loving kindness and compassion. In the context of Ngondro\, or preliminary practice\, offering 111\,111 mandalas is recommended. So just as we repeatedly polish our offering rings\, we correspondingly polish the mirror of mind. \nOur beloved Drupon Thinley Ningpo will show us how to practice the mandala offering as taught in the Drikung Kagyu tradition. He will explain not only how to perform the mandala offering — the ritual materials and 37 point step-by-step process — but will also explain its inner significance\, how it builds merit\, purifies negative karma\, and ultimately blossoms as the most valuable benefit of all\, Buddhahood. \nMandala practice texts will be available to use during the teaching weekend\, and will be available for purchase in the dharma store. If you own a mandala offering set\, please bring it with you. If you do not own a mandala set\, we will provide as many simulated sets as needed\, and vats of rice to fill the mandala\, so that everyone can participate and learn the practice hands-on. \nTo pre-register for this event\, please click here. \nTeaching Fee: $75 for this weekend\, $35 for Sustaining Members and above.\nFoundational Members may attend for free.

SUMMARY:Achi Chokyi Drolma Empowerment and Practice Instruction
DESCRIPTION:Empowerment: Saturday\, March 18\, 10am\nTeaching: Saturday & Sunday\, March 18/19\, 10am-12pm & 2pm-5pm \nDrupon Thinley Ningpo will grant the Achi Chokyi Drolma empowerment and then guide us to a greater understanding of Achi deity practice. Achi\, chief protectress of the Drikung Kagyu and an emanation of Vajrayogini\, is also the great grandmother of Lord Jigten Sumgon\, founder of the Drikung Kagyu Lineage. As such she “liberates the thoughts of beings to suit the dharma.” \nBorn in 11th century Tibet\, from an early age Achi displayed auspicious powers such as teaching mantra to others by the age of three. In essence her manifestation in the human realm embodies the wisdom and compassion of all the Buddhas\, the great mother of the Buddhas (http://www.rigdzindharma.org/achi-chokyi-drolma.html). “According to a prophecy in the Cakrasaṃvara Tantra\, it is said\, “The head of the Karma Dakinis will come to the area of Tidro cave in Drikung. This will be a nirmanakaya manifestation of Vajrayogini” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achi_Chokyi_Drolma). \nAchi practice is a particular favorite for our sangha. Please join us in paying homage to her for the benefit of all beings\, the Drikung Kagyu lineage and for the benefit of our fledgling dharma center. \nThis particular practice was written by Lord Jigten Sumgon\, and translated into English by Khenchen Gyaltsen Rinpoche. Drupon Thinley Ningpo will explain not only explain the text in particular and how to practice it\, but will also offer commentary on the meaning of empowerment and of deity practice in general. Copies of the practice will be provided. \nTo pre-register for this event\, please click here. \nTeaching Fee: $75 for this weekend\, $35 for Sustaining Members and above.\nFoundational Members may attend for free. \n

SUMMARY:Pure View and the Nature of Reality
DESCRIPTION:Pure View is one of the most basic\, and yet easily misunderstood concepts in Buddhism. But appreciating it’s true meaning is fundamental to entering the path to enlightenment. \nThe Buddha taught that the impure view can be experienced as a pure view\, that is\, confusion can be experienced as pristine wisdom-awareness\, where wisdom-awareness is the ascertainment and understanding of the true nature of things. \nDrupon Thinley Ningpo will teach us on these and other important concepts to help us gain a greater understanding and experience. \n  \nNov. 5 and 6:  10am – Noon\, 2pm to 5pm – Both days \nTeaching Fee:  $90 for the entire Weekend for non-members.  $65 for Sustaining Members or above. \nIf you would like to attend and this amount is an obstacle\, please contact us.  Work study is always available\, as well as other options. \nPati Stein 520-465-1882 \nMembership – In October 2015 we moved into our lovely Sahuarita location.  The idea of establishment of property was the wisdom of Drupon Thinley Ningpo\, Khenpo Ozer\, and Garchen Rinpoche.   Our ability to sustain this ourselves is directly dependent on the community of practitioners and attendees.  Membership and volunteerism will be essential for us to sustain the DNL Center into the future. \nPlease consider joining our membership today (click on Membership below): \nMembership

SUMMARY:Buddha Nature and the Perfection of Wisdom
DESCRIPTION:Buddha Nature and the Perfection of Wisdom\nH.E. Khenchen Konchog Gyaltsen Rinpoche \n“According to Buddhism\, individuals are masters of their own destiny.  And all living beings are believed to possess the nature of the Primordial Being Samatabadra\, the potential or seed of enlightenment\, within them.  So the future is in our own hands. What greater Freedom do we need?” \n— H.H. the Dalai Lama \nPatience is defined as forbearance under stress. It is the ability to abide with things the way they are.  This weekend Khenchen Rinpoche will explain Buddha Nature and Patience within the context of one’s practice and within one’s day-to-day life.

SUMMARY:Four Kayas Guru Yoga
DESCRIPTION:Four Kayas Guru Yoga\nDrupon Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche\nSaturday/Sunday\, November 7/8 \nDrupon Rinchen Dorjee oers teachings on The Four Kayas Guru Yoga\, his next installment of his series of practice instructions from the four thoughts on through to the instruction on Mahamudra and pointing out instructions. Here is a description of The Four Kayas from H.E. Garchen Rinpoche: \n“In your personal practice\, you see your own body as the yidam.  You see your mind as the guru. The mind of the guru is the union of emptiness and compassion; we are connected to the guru like the beads of a mala string. \nFrom the perspective of our own practice: the mind is guru\, the body is yidam\, and speech is the dakini. The Guru is the embodiment of 3 kayas: Body = Nirmanakaya\, Speech = Sambhogakaya and Mind = Dharmakaya. Lastly\, the fourth kaya\, Svabhavikakaya signies the inseparablity of the other three kayas. \nAt first\, the guru is the embodiment of outer refuge\, The Three Jewels. Later\, the guru is the embodiment of inner refuge\, The Three Roots. Finally\, the ultimate result is the attainment of The Three Kayas.” \nDrupon Rinchen Dorjee is currently the resident Lama for Chicago Ratna Shri and is the 3 year retreat master for Garchen Institute in Chino Valley. He is known for his wisdom\, patience\, and stable kindness.

SUMMARY:Vajrayogini Empowerment and Teaching
DESCRIPTION:Vajrayogini Empowerment and Teaching\nDrupon Thinley Ningpo Rinpoche\nSaturday\, Oct 25th\, 10am-Noon\, 2-5pm \nDrupon Thinley Ningpo will oer this Vajrayogini Empowerment and Teaching in preparation for the upcoming Tummo Retreat\, but all are welcome. \nVajrayogini is a female Buddha who embodies one’s innermost essence and is associated with the mother tantras of anutaratantra yoga. \nAccording to Tsongkapa\, her practice includes methods for preventing ordinary death\, awareness in the intermediate state or bardo and rebirth by transforming these into paths\, including the transformation of mundane daily activities into the enlightened state of mind. Through Vajrayogini’s mantra we accomplish the activity of the Dakini\, the 2 accumulations\, and the 4 activities.

SUMMARY:Preliminaries to Buddhist Tantric Practice
DESCRIPTION:Teachings by Drupon Thinley Ningpo \n \n  \nBuddhist Tantra is also known as Vajrayana\, Tantrayana\, the Third Turning of the Wheel\, and the Two Truths Doctrine. \nExperiencing ultimate truth is said to be the purpose of all the various tantric practices in the Vajrayana.  All practices are aimed in some way at purifying the impure perception of the practitioner to allow ultimate truth to be seen.  These may be ‘preliminary practices” or the more advanced techniques of the tantric sadhana. \nThis weekend’s teaching will be in preparation for Drupon’s next visit in October 2015\, when DNL will offer Vajrasattva and Vajrayogini empowerments\, and Tummo Practice retreat. \nDrupon Thinley Ningpo will once again share his knowledge and perspective with us by providing commentary on this very precious Dharma. \nSuggested Donation: $85 \nFor more information please contact: \nPati Stein 520-465-1882 \npati.c.stein@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Heart Sutra Teaching
DESCRIPTION:The Heart Sutra encompasses all Buddhist teachings\, be it Mahayana\, Madhyamaka\, Dzogchen\, Mahamudra\, or Zen. The Heart Sutra is perhaps the best loved of all Mahayana scriptures and is recited daily by Buddhists throughout Asia and around the world. \nThe Heart Sutra teachings summarize eloquently the Buddha’s second body of teachings\, the Perfection of Wisdom teachings. Though the Perfection of Wisdom teachings deal primarily with emptiness\, they are permeated by compassion as well. \nCompassion in the Heart Sutra is present in every single line of the teaching’s text. Out of compassion comes wisdom\, and both must be present to attain enlightenment. \n\nKhenpo Yeshe Rinpoche will once again share his knowledge and perspective with us by providing commentary on this very precious teaching. \n\n\nKhenpo Yeshe Rinpoche\n  \n\n\nEVENT DETAILS\nDate/Time:  Saturday & Sunday\, June 6/7\, 9am-12pm & 2pm-5pm \nSuggested Donation:  $85 for entire weekend \nFor More Information\, please contact:\nPati Stein\, 520-465-1882 or pati.c.stein@gmail.com \n\n\n\n\nEvent Location:  1871 N. SUMMARY:Love\, Compassion\, and Bodhichitta
DESCRIPTION:The Special Ngondro: The Meditation of Love\, Compassion\, and Bodhichitta is the 5th practice in the Drikung Ngondro. \nIn his book\, Diamond Rosary\, The Most Venerable Khenchen Gyaltsen Rinpoche said the following about this practice:\n\nThis precious teaching is a powerful way to recognize our own potential and it gives us full confidence to pursue the path. In our confusion we do not recognize our own home as buddha nature. We have traveled far away from our basic goodness and suffer greatly in that confusion.\n\nThis practice gives us a method to dispel confusion and return home. These Dharma teachings especially … bodhicitta\, give us an opportunity to completely reveal our buddha nature that has been hidden by afflicting emotions and negative karma.\n\nAs part of this practice teaching\, Drupon Dorje will also offer the Bodhisattva vow.\n\nFor those interested\, Diamond Rosary will be available for purchase at the teaching.\n\nDates/Times:\nSaturday & Sunday\, November 16 & 17\, 9am-12pm & 2-5pm\n\nSuggested Donation:\n$85 for the weekend.\nLocation:\n1871 N. SUMMARY:Essence of Great Bliss
DESCRIPTION:Lama Thupten Nyima \nThis lyrical liturgy will include traditional chanted recitation with the Venerable Lama Thupten Nima\, Chant Master from Gar Monastery in Tibet\, and current resident teacher at Garchen Institute in Chino Valley\, Arizona. Lama Nyima will instruct and guide us on this special practice weekend. \nThe Essence of Great Bliss and its accompanying texts are treasures revealed by the 19th century Drigung Kagy¸ Tertˆn Orgyen N¸den Dorje. The focus of this method for accomplishing the mind of Guru Rinpoche–from refuge at the beginning through dedication at the end–is the accomplishment of the Great Perfection. \nAlthough three different mantras are recited during the practice\, the principal recitation is that of the approach mantra: Om ah hum vajra guru padma siddhi hum. The practice is meant to be done in a group retreat setting and is chanted with lovely melodies throughout. \nAs this accomplishment retreat is traditionally held yearly at Gar Monastery in Eastern Tibet\, Garchen Rinpoche has encouraged its practice by his disciples in the west.\n\nDates/Times:\nSaturday & Sunday\, September 7 & 8\, 9am-12pm & 2-5pm\n\nSuggested Donation:\n$85 for the weekend.\nLocation:\n1871 N. SUMMARY:The Fivefold Path of Mahamudra
DESCRIPTION:Drupon Trinley Yeshi Rinpoche \nThe Fivefold Path of Mahamudra includes the cultivation of bodhicitta\, guru yoga practice\, yidam practice\, Mahamudra practice\, and the dedication of merit. This is a special way of laying out the path of practice according to the Drikung Kagyu lineage.\n\nIt is especially good fortune to receive these teachings from Drupon Yeshi Rinpoche\, because he holds this lineage purely. He received it directly from one of the main Drikung Kagyu lineage holders\, Drubwang Pachung Rinpoche\, and as well as from Drubwang Tenzin Nyima\, the main lineage holders of the Fivefold Path of Mahamudra. To receive the direct transmission of these teachings from Drupon Yeshi Rinpoche is thus a very rare and precious opportunity. \nThis practice lineage possesses truly great blessings. As a lineage is passed from master to disciple\, it is actually the practice lineage that is passed on\, which means the master must first have attained complete experience and realization in the practice. He or she then passes it on to a disciple\, who must then himself or herself gain the same experience and realization. Thus it is passed on\, creating a very pure lineage of great blessings.\n\nH.E. Garchen Rinpoche has said about Drupon Yeshi Rinpoche: “He is an inconceivable\, extraordinary master\, truly upholding the teachings of the Drikung Kagyu. He is a true\, authentic\, qualified spiritual master\, and you should make a dedicated effort to come and receive his teachings. You should take this opportunity to ask him questions about your practice\, for it is very\, very rare.”\n\nThis teaching will take place Friday evening from 7-9pm\, Saturday 9am-12pm and 2-5pm\, and Sunday 9am-12pm.\nTraditional Tibetan Healing\nFrom 2-5pm on Sunday\, Drupon Rinpoche will bestow a Traditional Tibetan Healing to those who wish it. This tradition is believed to bestow blessings and remove obstacle to good health and happiness. To help us plan better\, please let us know you’ll be attending. Contact Pati at 465-1882. \n\nDates/Times:\nFriday\, July 19\, 7-9pm\nSaturday\, July 20\, 9am-12pm & 2-5pm\nSunday\, July 21\, 9am-12pm\n\nTraditional Tibetan Healing\nSunday\, July 21\, 2-5pm\nSuggested Donation:\n$85 for the weekend.\nLocation:\n1871 N. SUMMARY:Mandala Teachings with Drupon Rinchen Dorje
DESCRIPTION:Mandala Practice is one of the fourPreliminary Tibetan Buddhist Ngondro Practices\, along with Refuge\, Vajrasattva\, and Guru Yoga. Mandala practice is a means of developing generosity by cutting through attachment and desire. During Mandala Practice\, we visualize offering the entire universe to all Buddhas and Bodhisatvas\, to the Dharma and the Sangha. \nAll of the wealth of the universe is symbolized by the rice held in our hands. We visualize each grain of rice as a jewel and offer it as an act of generosity to all. \nDrupon Rinpoche Dorje will lead a 2 day teaching on the meaning and application of the Mandala\, including hands-on instruction on its creation. If you have your own mandala rings that you would like to use for practice\, please bring them. \n\n1871 N.
