SUMMARY:Guru Yoga Empowerment
DESCRIPTION:The words Guru Yoga mean ëunion with the nature of the guruí\, and in this practice we are given methods by which we can blend our own minds with the enlightened mind of the master. There is no swifter\, more moving\, or more powerful practice for invoking the help of the enlightened beings\, for arousing devotion and realizing the nature of mind\, then the practice of Guru Yoga. The master (guru) embodies the crystallization of the blessing of all buddhas\, masters\, and enlightened beings.\nTo invoke him or her is to invoke them all; and to merge your mind and heart with your masterís wisdom mind is to merge your mind with the truth and very embodiment of enlightenment.\nThis empowerment is open to all practitioners. All attendees of the subsequent Guru Yoga Closed Retreat must attend this empowerment. \n\n\nSuggested Donation: $25\nLocation:\n3125 N. Corte Lindo Cielo\nTucson\, Arizona 85745 \n(Click here for a map)\nDirections: \nWest on Grant\, cross Silverbell and Greasewood\nTurn Right on Lloyd Bush\nTurn Left on Goret (or take Goret from Silverbell if coming from NW).\nCorte Lindo Cielo is on the left side of Goret\, just before the paved road ends. SUMMARY:Discovering Our Buddha Nature
DESCRIPTION:All sentient beings\, without exception have buddha nature\, the inherent purity and perfection of the mind\, untouched by changing mental states. Thus there is neither any reason for conceit in deeming oneself better than others\, nor any reason for self-contempt\, thinking of oneself as inferior and unable to reach enlightenment. This seeing is obscured by veils which are removable and do not touch the inherent purity and perfection of the nature of the mind.\nKhenpo Yeshi will be teaching from Buddha Nature\, The Mahayana Uttaratantra Shastra\, by by Arya Maitreya (commentary by Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye and explanations by Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche). Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the teaching.\nKhenpo Yeshi Rinpoche will teach on the fundamental discovery of our buddha nature\, and help us realize the teachings on the essence and source of buddhahood.\n\nA Lama Chopa meditation practice will precede each day’s teaching. This one-hour practice\, let by Khenpo Yeshi\, is a complete meditation for purifying the four obscurations through receiving the four empowerments of transforming one’s body\, speech\, and mind into the pure enlightened state.\n \n\n1871 N. SUMMARY:The Four Thoughts That Turn The Mind
DESCRIPTION:The Four Thoughts That Turn the Mind is the fundamental basis of all Buddhist practice.\nThe first thought – our reflection on precious human birth\, gives us insight into the great fortune of our human incarnation and the opportunity it provides to study and practice the Dharma.Secondly\, impermanence and the inevitability of death help us to appreciate that this unique opportunity is transient and therefore especially precious.\nThirdly\, karma and its effects govern our lives and rebirth.\nLastly\, the pervasiveness of suffering in samsara (this existence) is a fundamental truth that we must all grasp in order to spiritually grow and ultimately gain enlightenment.\n\nDrupon Rinchen Dorje Rinpoche is visiting us from Chicago Ratna Shri\, and will deliver a precious two-day teaching on The Four Thoughts That Turn The Mind.\n \n\n1871 N. SUMMARY:Natural Liberation: Padmasambhava's Teachings on the Six Bardos
DESCRIPTION:Event Day and TimesFridays\, 1/30 and 2/6\, 7-9pm\nSaturdays/Sundays\, 1/31-2/1 and 2/7-8\, 9am-5pm \nNatural Liberation\, Padmasambhava’s Teachings on the Six Bardos provide extensive instruction on each of the six transitional processes\, or bardos\, that make up our experience in samsara.\nThese teachings contain methods for naturally\, or spontaneously\, liberating ourselves from the sufferings that are inherent in each of the six realms so we can obtain ultimate liberation.\n\n“The transitional process from the time we are born until the time we die is crucial in determining whether we will go up or down.”\n“With a human incarnation\, we possess greater power than other beings to bring about good\, but also greater power to bring about bad. We have the ability to know and to understand\, and we must make best use of the favorable conditions of a human incarnation.”\n“We must not meaninglessly waste this opportunity. If we conduct ourselves well in\nour life\, then later\, as we approach death (in the Bardo)\, and in our next life\, we will go further and further up. There is no doubt about this.”\n“Otherwise\, we will suffer great fear and pain as we die\, our minds will suffer agony and despair\, and (due to our ignorance) we will not recognize the Bardo of Becoming. The purpose of the Six Bardos teachings is to profoundly move us to engage in practice during the Bardo of Living.”\nTraga Rinpoche\n\nOf all the methods taught by Buddha Shakyamuni to achieve enlightenment\, the methods of Mahamudra and Dzogchen provide us the most profound view – that of the mind’s true nature. Traga Rinpoche will also present an overview of these two methods and clarify for us the differences and similarities inherent in them.\n\nAn excellent book on these teachings is Natural Liberation: Padmasambhava’s Teachings on the Six Bardos\, with commentary by Gyatrul Rinpoche and translation by B. Alan Wallace (Wisdom Publications\, 1997).\n\nWe are once again very fortunate to be receiving these profound teachings from The Venerable Traga Rinpoche.\n \n\n1871 N. SUMMARY:The Meaning of Empowerments
DESCRIPTION:Most deity yoga practices require that practitioners receive an initiation or empowerment prior to doing the practice. The empowerment ritual confers authority upon the practitioner to engage in the practice of the particular deity for which the empowerment is given. There are four stages to the empowerment ritual: the vase empowerment\, which purifies the obscurations of the body; the secret empowerment\, which purifies the obscurations of speech; the knowledge or wisdom empowerment\, which purifies our mental obscurations; and the word empowerment\, which purifies the subtle habitual tendencies which give rise to dualistic perception.\nGape Lama will teach us about the meaning of empowerment and how empowerments can help us transform our ordinary\, habitual tendencies into enlightened activity. This will be a good introduction to the White Tara Empowerment which he will be bestowing on Friday night\, March 20th.\n\nGape Lama will also be leading White Tara Practice on Wednesday night\, March 18th at 7:30pm at Little Chapel of All Nations\, 1401 E. SUMMARY:Amitabha Empowerment and Teaching
DESCRIPTION:This Amitabha empowerment and teaching is being held in conjunction with the center’s spiritual director\, Khenpo Sherab Ozer Rinpoche and his recent worldwide mantra accumulation efforts – along with the nuns of Samten Choling Nunnery in Eastern Tibet. The intention of this great accumulation of mantras\, is to help ease the suffering of all sentient beings who have recently passed away and may be wandering and/or suffering in the intermediate state between death and re-birth. Buddha Amitabha is an historical buddha from another era. He made special aspiration that he would accomplish bodhicitta and benefit all sentient beings. In particular he focused on his pure land called Dewachen and said even those who have not achieved bhumis can be reborn in my pure land. They can make this connection simply by hearing my name and developing devotion.\nLocation\n1871 N. SUMMARY:Guru Yoga and Permissions & Prohibitions Teaching
DESCRIPTION:“A Guru Yoga that Brings the Dharmakaya onto the Path\,î is a practice of profound meaning and rich with blessing for the modern regular practitioner with limited time. The practice of guru yoga\, merging with the mind of the master\, lies at the very heart of the Vajrayana Buddhist tradition.\n“The practice of guru yoga\, merging with the mind of the master\, lies at the very heart of the Vajrayana Buddhist tradition of Tibet. Through the guru yoga practice\, all obstacles can be removed and all blessings received. With the help of the outer teacher\, we can discover the inner teacher\, the true nature of our own mind. If we wish to progress towards enlightenment\, we need the guidance of a qualified master\, while we seek to rid ourselves of ignorance and free ourselves from the tyranny of ego. The hallmark of the guru yoga practice\, in fact the very practice itself\, is a lucid\, pure and intelligent devotion.”\n\nìPermissions and Prohibitions: Their Mode of Abidingî gives pith advice on ìwhat is to be practiced and what is not\, in accordance with causalityís mode of abiding.î Khenchen Gyaltsen wrote this text on July 4\, 2008\, at Drigung Drenshe Ling in Germany\, and will be providing commentary on its meaning.\n\nKhenchen Gyaltsen Rinpoche will be returning to his students in Tucson. It is very rare to meet a Lama with such extensive training in Buddhist philosophy and such profound meditation experience. In addition\, Rinpoche’s complete fluency in English makes him exceptionally capable of communicating the profound meaning of the teachings. \n \n Benedictine Convent\n800 N.Country Club\nTucson AZ 85716

SUMMARY:Achi Empowerment and Practice
DESCRIPTION:Achi is one of the protectors of the Drikung Kagyu Lineage\, but she actually protects all beings from harm. Achi was the grandmother of Lod Jigten Sumgon\, the founder of the Drikung Kagyu Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. She is like a mother\, who loves her students fiercely and will do anything to protect them – so that the Dharma\, especially the Drikung Kagyu – will flourish. \nAchi’s blessing are said to be extremely quick and her practice is done daily in virtually every Drikung Lineage monastery both inside and outside of Tibet. Individuals who practice Achi and recite her mantra are certain to be protected from obstacles and hindrances\, especially hindrances to their Dharma practice. \nAn Empowerment is offered on Saturday\, Sept 26th\, followed by practice sessions for the rest of the week end. This particular practice was written by Jigten Sumgon\, our lineageís founder\, and translated in to English by Khenchen Gyaltsen Rinpoche. \n\n1871 N. SUMMARY:Progressing Along the Path - Refuge Teachings
DESCRIPTION:Refuge is considered the foundation of the path to liberation\, the basis of all vows\, the source of all enlightened qualities and the point of differentiation between buddhists and non-buddhists. Together with generating Bodhichitta\, it forms the foundation for accomplishing the level of complete enlightenment and the source of all that is positive in existence and peace. \nRefuge is one of the preliminaries to Mahamudra practice and is the second in a series of teachings from Drupon Rinchen Dorje. Drupon Dorje will be teaching Refuge from the Jewel Ornament of Liberation. This teaching is open to all levels of practitioners and beginners are welcome. \nOur own Khenpo Sherab Ozer Rinpoche has encouraged us to seek guidance from Drupon Dorje with respect to Mahamudra practice and Drupon Dorje has graciously agreed to teach the stages of the path. † \n\n1871 N. SUMMARY:Shitro Empowerment\, Lung & Teaching
DESCRIPTION:Shitro translates as peaceful and wrathful deities and is associated with purification of the skandhas or aggregates of form\, perception\, feeling\, mental formations and consciousness. At the moment of our death these aggregates dissolve into their pure and impure qualities\, and may be experienced as dream-like imagery or visions. \nIn the practice of Shitro\, we learn to recognize this\, so that as we transmigrate through the intermediate state after death\, weíre not propelled by karmic propensities into lower rebirths. Rather\, weíre able to abide in the Nature of Mind. This journey of compounded and uncompounded awareness is the central theme in the Prayer of Kungtuzangpo.\n\nThis Shitro Empowerment\, Lung\, and Teaching will be held on Friday afternoon\, 12/4 from 2-6pm at the Benedictine Convent. This event is associated with the following weekend’s teaching on the Prayer of Kungtuzangpo.\n\n \n Benedictine Convent\n800 N.Country Club\nTucson AZ 85716

SUMMARY:The Prayer of Kungtuzangpo
DESCRIPTION:The Prayer of Kungtuzangpo (Tibetan)\, also known as the Primordial Buddha Samantabhadra (Sanskrit) instructs the sincere student about the View\, Meditation and Action of the Nature of Mind and how we stray from this Unchanging Goodness in our day to day lives.\nThis aspirational prayer from the Dzogchen Ati Yoga Tantras comes from Guru Rinpoche\, Padmasmbhava. It is from the 9th chapter of the Gonpa Zangthal or Northern Treasures\, a secret treasure or terma discovered in 1366 by the Great\nAwareness-Holder and terton\, Rigdzin Goden in the cave of Zangzang Lhadrak in Tibet. \n \n Benedictine Convent\n800 N.Country Club\nTucson AZ 85716

DESCRIPTION:Weekend Teaching Schedule:(You may attend any or all sessions)\n\nFriday\, 3/19\, 1-5pm\nThe Six Paramitas: Walking the Bodhisattva’s Path to Enlightenment\n \n\nThe 6 paramitas (or perfections) include generosity\, moral ethics\, patience\, perseverance\, meditative concentration\, and wisdom. function as simple\, practical and enlightening guidance on how to live our lives on and off the meditation cushion in a way that purifies disturbing emotions and negative karma into virtuous activity. Lama-la has suggested that we bring our Jewel Ornament of Liberation text to this teaching.\nPlease bring your copies of The Jewel Ornament of Liberation with you. \nFriday\, 3/19\, 7-9pm\nIntroduction to Meditating on Emptiness: Wisdom-Awareness\n \n\nEmptiness meditation is likened to the experience of pouring water into water or stirring butter into butter. When one learns to abide in the inherently natural state of wisdom-awareness the paramitas manifest spontaneously in one’s day to day actions\, like breast milk passing from mother to babe. Lamala will introduce us to emptiness-awareness meditation practice and if we’re lucky – it’s result! \nSaturday\, 3/20\, 9am-12pm\, & 2-5pm\nLight Amassment of Blessings: Guru Yoga Teachings & Group Meditation Practice\n \n\nGuru Yoga is the practice of merging one’s mind with the wisdom mind of the teacher. This very special Guru Yoga sadhana was transmitted by Garchen Rinpoche just a few years ago and written down by Lama Gabe for Rinpoche’s disciples\, after a very persistent student made supplications to him. \nSunday\, 3/21\, 9am-12pm & 2-5pm\nWhite Dzambhala Empowerment: Summoning Good Fortune \nTeachings & Group Meditation Practice \n\nDzambhala Diety is considered a master of longevity\, merit\, nourishment\, riches & fortune. This practice is timely with the difficult economic times world-wide and disasters\, such as in Haiti and Chile. May we practice with the intention that all beings have what they need.\nLocation: All Events\n1871 N. King Street Tucson\, Arizona 85749 (Click here for a map) \nFor More Information:\nPati Stein: 465-1882
