Ngondro – Preliminary Practices

August 21, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Lord Jigten Sumgon with Kagyu Dieties

Lord Jigten Sumgon, Rigdzin Chodrak (1st Chungtsang Rinpoche), and Konchok Ratna (1st Chetsang Rinpoche)

In samsara, there are three types of suffering – suffering in the making, the suffering of change, and the suffering of suffering. Ones should meditate with fierce renunciation in the knowledge that the intrinsic nature of these three is like a building blazing with fire. Having established the difficulty of obtaining the freedoms and advantages, ones should train in the ordinary preliminaries, and then undertake them.

The founder to the Drikung Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, Lord Jigten Sumgon stated, “Ngondro is even more important than the higher practices.” It has also been said that sincerely practicing only Ngondro will lead to enlightenment since all mind training techniques leading to enlightenment are included within it!

The five Drikung Kagyu Ngondro preliminary practices are:

1. The Practice of Taking Refuge (prostrations with recitations),
2. Practice of Vajrasattva Meditation and Recitation for Purification,
3. Offering the Noble Mandala the Special Method for Perfecting the Two Accumulations,
4. The Guru Yoga that Brings the Blessings of the Lineage

5.  Bodhicitta – the practice of truly wishing for eveyones’ enlightenment, no one left behind.

This Ngondro group will meet every third Sunday of each month.  We will offer two sessions, first session 10 am to Noon, second session 1 pm to 3 pm.  Each session we will practice Refuge and Vajrasattva.  All are welcome to attend one or both sessions.

Bring your own sack lunch
